ABOUT
KARL’S JOURNEY
I learned about compassion fatigue working in a busy, inner-city emergency room where I burned out, developed severe depression and nearly ended my life in a suicide attempt. After years of therapy and medication I quit my job, moved to Singapore and learned Qigong, – A Chinese martial art that restores balance and harmony. For the first time in my life, I could actually feel the release of toxic stress energy from my mind and body and recharging with positive energy.
I knew then I would find a way to share what I had learned about how to renew my energy with other care givers who were also burning out and leaving the field.

I began learning everything I could about how mind and body were connected and that changing how I moved and breathed could have such an impact on how I felt. I studied Positive Psychology, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Somatic Experiencing and Self-Compassion. From these evidence-based practices I developed a series of exercises and strategies that I began to share with others and still practice today.
Since 1997 I have had the privilege of providing over 1000 continuing education workshops, webinars and consultations to more than 50,000 healthcare professionals across the United States, the Middle East and S.E. Asia.
